A Morning of Mindfulness (mini-retreat)
10 August, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Much of the time, we’re not very kind to ourselves. We’re good to others – but not so much to ourselves.
Perhaps we’re afraid that kindness will make us weak, or that learning to manage our inner critic will de-motivate us, or make us lose our edge. Whatever the reason, being caring towards ourselves is not something we often do.
And yet the science is clear: mindful self-compassion is an attitude and range of practices that not only lowers stress levels, but is also associated with increased emotional wellbeing, happiness, resilience, optimism, openness to learning, wisdom, and even productivity.
For many of us this a new way of being with ourselves, and of cultivating inner strength and resilience. And whilst it may feel unfamiliar at first, once we begin to feel the benefits, we find that we want to weave it more and more into our thinking and daily life.
Who is this for?
The morning is suitable for those new to or experienced with mindfulness. Teachers, health professionals, and carers will find the morning particularly valuable for themselves as well as for those with whom they work and care for. Couples sometimes comes together, as do parents with older teenagers.
What will we be doing?
We’ll be practicing a range of guided mindfulness and self-compassion meditations. These will include the gentle movement of qigong (led by fellow teacher Rosa Mauvra) to support you to engage deeper into the practices.
No-one needs to get into weird postures or to do anything they feel uncomfortable about. With sitting meditations, most people prefer to stay on their chairs, though meditation stools or cushions can also be used. Self-care is essential and participants are asked to place their health and wellbeing ahead of anything else.
There will be time for a teabreak, and there will be the opportunites to reflect and share experiences, ask questions, and connect with others.
What do I need to bring?
You might want to bring a yoga mat or towel to lie on, a light rug if it’s chilly, any meditation equipment you might have, and a bottle of water. Tea and biccies will be provided.
You may cancel your booking up to seven days before the event and will receive a full refund. Alternatively you may transfer your ticket to someone else.
“Overall just perfect. A wonderful morning, all about learning how to look after yourself.”
